Safety Precautions, Malfunctions, and Solutions for the Telescopic Belt Conveyor

This article unfolds the essential safety precautions and measures necessary during the transportation, storage, and operation of the Telescopic Belt Conveyor. From navigating potential malfunctions to offering practical solutions, ensuring smooth and secure handling of this equipment.

1. Transportation and Storage

During the transportation process, the product must comply with the relevant regulations of the transportation department and should not come into contact with acids or alkalis. The drive unit and electrical equipment should avoid severe vibrations, collisions, and impacts. Measures to prevent rain and moisture should be taken during storage, and the product should be stored in a warehouse with a shelter.

2. Safety Warnings

The telescopic belt conveyor has potential hazards associated with specific components during operation. While the following prompts may not cover all possible dangers and cannot replace on-the-job judgment of hazards, they indicate the severity of the risks. Before operating and maintaining the telescopic conveyor, it is crucial to carefully read and understand the following content.

  • 1) Danger! Danger prompts draw attention to hazards that, if not addressed with appropriate precautions, will lead to severe injury or death.
  • 2) Warning! Warning prompts are to alert to hazards that, if not addressed with suitable precautions, will result in injury or death.
  • 3) Caution! Caution prompts are to advise on hazards that, if not approached with care, may lead to personal injury or equipment damage. These hazards are typically not severe initially but can escalate to serious consequences if proper precautions are not taken, potentially leading to fatal injuries.

Content of Prompts

2.1 Danger
No one is allowed to cross or step over the conveyor during its operation, as it may result in injury or death. Riding on the conveyor is strictly prohibited.

2.2 Warning

  • 1) The telescopic conveyor must not carry any flammable or explosive items, as it may cause severe equipment damage and personnel fatalities.
  • 2) Before starting the telescopic conveyor, observe the surroundings, and avoid rash startup.
  • 3) As the telescopic conveyor operates with an electric motor, ensure the power is cut off during maintenance. “Cut off” means maintenance personnel tagging, locking, and disconnecting the cable from the power source. Any other interpretation is inaccurate and may lead to personal injury and equipment damage.

2.3 Caution
During the operation of the equipment, fingers should not be placed in moving gaps.

Safety Guidelines

  • 1) The protective plates must not be opened during the normal operation of the telescopic conveyor at the head and tail ends.
  • 2) Ensure no one is in front of the conveyor’s head before starting the telescopic conveyor.
  • 3) Maintain a safe distance from all moving parts and machinery during conveyor operation. Loose clothing (especially collars, cuffs, trouser legs, etc.) should not be worn during inspections while the conveyor is running.
  • 4) Start the telescopic conveyor only after checking and confirming that all components are correctly installed.
  • 5) Ensure that all bolts and fasteners are in the proper positions and securely fastened.
  • 6) All installation and maintenance work on the conveyor must be carried out under the conditions stated in this manual. For information on the use and maintenance of the telescopic conveyor’s electric motor, gearbox, and brake, refer to the relevant maintenance manual.
  • 7) Users should ensure the regular use of the conveyor and avoid overloading. Users are strictly prohibited from changing the conveying capacity or making other modifications that affect equipment performance without consulting the design and manufacturing unit to prevent adverse consequences.
  • 8) Riding on the conveyor is strictly prohibited.
  • 9) Opening inspection holes during conveyor operation is not allowed.
  • 10) Regularly inspect the operating status of the conveyor. If any anomalies are detected, repair or replacement should be carried out immediately. All startup operations must be performed by trained personnel, and others are strictly prohibited from operating or interfering with the normal operation of the equipment.
  • 11) Before restarting the telescopic conveyor after an unexpected stop, a detailed inspection is required to determine the reason for the stoppage and eliminate faults.
  • 12) Crossing over the conveyor equipment or passing through it from below is strictly prohibited.

3. Machine Operation

  1. Turn on the rotary power switch on the external panel of the electrical box.
  2. Activate the 4P circuit breaker inside the electrical box.
  3. Check the inverter and PLC to ensure that all operational indicator lights are functioning properly.
  4. Verify if the emergency stop switch is pressed.
  5. Operate the equipment under normal conditions.

4. Equipment Malfunctions and Measures

  1. Telescopic Extension Failure
① Check for issues in the extension inverter wiring.
② Verify if there are errors or damage in the extension limit switch wiring.
③ Examine the wiring of front-end stop buttons, emergency stop buttons, and collision rod limit switches for issues, damage, or inadvertent activation.
④ Check for correct, secure, and properly connected wiring of the telescopic motor.
⑤ Ensure the brake is disengaged.
⑥ Verify if there are errors in the inverter parameters.
⑦ Confirm the consistency of power between the inverter and the telescopic motor.
⑧ Check for motor damage or mechanical blockages.
  2. Loading and Unloading Failure
① Inspect the transmission inverter wiring for issues.
② Verify if there are errors or secure wiring in the motor connections.
③ Check for complete adjustment of inverter parameters.
④ Confirm the consistency of power between the inverter and the transmission motor.
⑤ Detect motor damage or mechanical blockages.
⑥ Check for damage or inadvertent activation of the front-end emergency stop button.
  3. Power Indicator Light Not Illuminated
① Check if the voltage of the indicator light matches the wiring voltage.
② Inspect the indicator light for damage.
③ Check if the circuit forms a complete loop and if there is a phase deficiency in the power supply.
  4. Inverter Not Functioning
① Check for phase deficiency in the voltage.
② Verify if the input voltage of the inverter matches the supplied voltage.
③ Inspect the inverter for damage.
  5. PLC, Power Switch, and Other Components Not Operational/No Power
① Check for wiring errors in the components.
② Verify if the voltage matches the provided voltage for the components.
③ Inspect the components for any internal faults.
